Hello there! My name is Aya Souayh, I’m a 21 year-old architecture student. For as long as I can remember, I wanted to learn how to draw and paint. It all started off as a meer passion and a passe-temps; Until the day I picked up an old pair of jeans, cut them into shorts, and painted a sunflower on them, and thus was born the idea of upcycling old textile waste, and turning them into a wearable piece of art. It’s no old news that the fashion industry is the 2nd biggest pollutant in the world, and that fast-fashion is killing our planet bit by bit; which is why, us, as the youth of today have a huge responsibility to change that by making more responsible choices. Upcycling to me, is making the unwanted wanted. It’s giving a second life and a second chance to a plain piece of garment and turning it into your own personalized art. Because how cool it is to be able to transform your own jeans into the best version of themselves, and to buy clothes that guaranteed no one else has?
